Can I propagate my cactus by cutting off an arm?

A piece broke off. I'm not very skilled with plants and I'm learning by trial and error. I don't want to rush, but I also don't want to do too little and make it worse later.

Yes. Let the cutting dry for 7–10 days and then plant it in a mineral substrate. After several trials I realized that patience was key. Sometimes I did nothing and that was exactly what it needed.

You can apply options like ground cinnamon, sulfur, or rooting hormone to the freshly made cutting so it heals faster and puts out roots. Make sure to put it on both sides of the cut. They serve to act as a fungicide and bactericide; leave it on for a few days until the callus forms and then you can plant it.
