How can I make my pothos bushier?

💬 2 · 👀 50
My pothos has grown quite long, but I find it not very bushy. The stems lengthen and hang well, but almost no new leaves emerge near the base, so visually it looks long but empty. I’ve had it indoors for over a year, placed near a window with plenty of light, though without direct sun because I'm afraid the leaves will burn. If anyone has managed to make their pothos look fuller, I’d appreciate it if you explained what you did.

This is very common in pothos, especially when they are allowed to grow without pruning for a long time. They tend to stretch seeking light and leave fewer leaves near the pot. Pruning the tips usually works very well because it forces the plant to activate the lower nodes and produce new branches. You don't need to cut a lot at once; you can start with one or two stems and see how it responds. In my case, improving the lighting a bit and keeping watering moderate, without overdoing it, also helped. It's not immediate, but with patience and small periodic prunings the pothos ends up looking much bushier and more balanced.
